WORK SUMMARY

Over thirty years of experience in electrical, analytical, and instrumentation process control systems engineering, design, installation, and troubleshooting with Distributive Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), motor controls, Gas Chromatographs (GC), Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), and digital and analog control systems including circuit design and testing.  Over thirty-six years of computer experience including IBM, Macintosh, Amiga, MS-DOS, Windows, Linux and OS/2.  AutoCAD proficient. 

EXPERIENCE

11/12 – 01/13 Logistics & Technology Services, Inc., Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA            Control System Supervisor

Started an HVAC Preventive Maintenance (PM) program, utilizing Maximo Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), from the ground up, including assessing 230 buildings.

06/10 – 10/12 Interstellar Echoes Production Studio, Vista, CA            Producer & Audio Recording Engineer

Responsible for audio recording studio operations, focusing on music production and recording for commercial publishing and distribution.  Complex programming of sequencer & recording software.

 01/09 – 06/10 Fluor Corporation, Irvine, CA            Principal Control Systems Engineer

Responsible for DCS interfaces to Packaged Mechanical Equipment for Marathon Detroit Heavy Oil Upgrade Project (DHOUP) including Control Narratives, Cause & Effects (C&E) and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).  Primary interface with the client and equipment vendors.  Foundation Fieldbus (FFB) installation and Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI).

 01/06 – 01/09 Fluor Corporation, Aliso Viejo, CA            Principal Control Systems Engineer

Responsible for the complete design of analytical and control systems for REC Silicon’s Moses Lake Expansion Project including Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), instrument specifications, data sheets, and all instrumentation design documents and drawings.  Primary interface with client and equipment vendors.  Directed on-site DCS programming of the C&Es.  FFB installation and SPI.

 06/02 - 11/05 Genentech (formerly Biogen Idec) NIMO, Oceanside, CA            Principal Electrical & Controls Engineer

Responsible for the complete design of electrical, analytical and control systems for the new construction of a biopharmaceutical manufacturing plant including P&IDs, instrument specification, data sheets, and design documents and drawings.  Principal analytical engineer and FFB.

 06/00 - 04/02 General Atomics, San Diego, California            Principal Electrical & Controls Engineer

Responsible for the complete design of electrical and control systems for the U.S. Army’s chemical demilitarization program at the Newport Chemical Depot in Newport, IN including P&IDs, detailed system descriptions, instrument data sheets, alarm, interlock, and sequence matrices, and all design drawings and logic diagrams.  Super Critical Water Oxidation (SCWO) organic waste destruction.

 11/99 - 06/00 Mobil Torrance Refinery, Torrance, California            Senior Analytical Systems Engineer

Continued in design, programming, installation, and commissioning of complex analytical control systems for new and existing CEMS and GC systems on Applied Automations (AA) Local Interface Network Controllers (LINC).  Authored procedures and generated work scopes for subcontractors.

Responsibilities include complex Allen-Bradley (A-B) PLC-5 and PLC-3 programming for Anheuser-Busch with Factory Link automation software.  Clean room HVAC design, construction, and management for Rockwell Semiconductor using A-B SLC-5/04 PLCs and RSView Human Machine Interface (HMI) software.  Standardized design documentation, AutoCAD 14 and MicroStation SE.

 04/98 - 03/99 Solar Turbines, Kearny Mesa, California            Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer

Responsible for the design and manufacturing of gas turbine engine control and electrical systems, Compressor Division, with management of units up to 18,000 HP totaling over $50 million.  Design drawings and documents, A-B PLC-5, and dynamic testing.

 10/96 - 03/98 NutraSweet Kelco Company, San Diego, California            Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer

Responsibilities include system verification, code compliance and drawing red-line and review in support of Process Safety Management (PSM).  Developed standards and electrical drawing control procedures.  Performed detailed review of A-B PLC-5 and Rosemount DCS programming and generated logic matrix charts for use in process hazard analysis.  Submitted reports on all systems, including software, and established process control charts to document the software control systems.

 04/96 - 10/96 Mobil Torrance Refinery, Torrance, California            Process Control/Electrical Engineer

Responsible for the design, installation, troubleshooting, repair, calibration and commissioning of new and existing CEMS analyzers on AA LINCs, including programming.  Triconex PLC Safety Instrumented System (SIS).

02/96 - 04/96 Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station, Glen Rose, Texas            Nuclear Startup Engineer

Requested by client to perform Westinghouse 7300 bypass modifications and subsequent startup testing.  Worked closely with QA/QC and plant engineering to ensure compliance.

11/94 - 02/96 Mobil Torrance Refinery, Torrance, California            Process Control/Electrical Engineer  

Clean Fuels Project new construction.

01/94 - 11/94 Pacific Offshore Pipeline Co. (POPCO), Goleta, California            Process Control Field Engineer

Systems include Fisher ProVox DCS, A-B PLC-5, TotalFlow metering, Applied Automation, Thermo Environmental, Western Research, Bendix, PECO, Houston Atlas, chromatographs and CEMS.

06/93 - 12/93 Exxon Santa Ynez Unit, Las Flores Canyon, Goleta, California            Process Control Startup Engineer

Supervised design, installation, and control system checkouts through Bailey Infi 90 DCS and A-B PLC-5.  Responsible for acceptance by Santa Barbara County and detailed cause and effect testing.

10/92 - 05/93 Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station, Glen Rose, Texas            Nuclear Startup Technician

Responsible for calibration and troubleshooting of all systems for operational turnover prior to initial fuel load as well as procedure review and updating.  Qualified Level 1 Test Technician.

SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENTS

· During my employment, and four years in a row, the Ethisphere Institute has named Fluor to its annual selection of the World’s Most Ethical Companies (2007-2010).

· During my employment, Solar Turbines was awarded the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality award in manufacturing (1998).

· Selected from worldwide applicants to participate in The Planetary Society’s 3rd and 4th K/T Geologic Expeditions to Belize, Central America (1998 & 2001).

· During performance of bypass modifications at Comanche Peak, I was half of the only 2-person team that did not incur any QA/QC violations in the two months of work (1996).

· Attended Keye Productivity Center supervisor training course (1991).

· Accepted responsibilities of Night School Instructor for both Navy Electronic and Nuclear Power Schools due to performance and leadership abilities (1979-1980).

· Assigned class leader in Navy Electronics School.  Received commendation from the Commanding Officer for outstanding performance by acing Basic Electricity & Electronics (1979).
