Back in High School I was dating this girl,
I loved her more than anything in this world.
We made out in the front of my car,
Not in the back, we didn't get that far.

Then one day she wrote me a note,
"Are we gonna' do it, I've got to know".
I didn't understand exactly what she meant,
Well I guess I had a clue but that's as far as it went.

We broke up, and as far as I can tell,
It's because I fell, asleep at the wheel.
I fell asleep at the wheel.
I was asleep at the wheel.

          -------------------------------------------

When I would party I was nobody's fool,
Smokin' and a drinkin' by the side of the pool.
I kept on going late into the night,
I almost got myself into a couple of fights.

It was almost five o'clock when I decided to go,
I jumped in my car and headed down that road.
I remember the sun as it rose that day,
It's a wonder that I even made it home OK.

I was drunk, and as far as I can tell,
It's because I fell, asleep at the wheel.
I fell asleep at the wheel.
I was asleep at the wheel.

          -------------------------------------------

Now I'm stuck in traffic on the 405,
My lids are getting heavy and they cover my eyes.
It's been two hours and I'm still in L.A.,
I wonder if I'm ever gonna' get away.

A sign is flashing up ahead on the right,
An accident occurred in the dead of the night.
Two cars occupied space and time,
And I don't think I'm gonna' make it home by nine.

They cracked up, and as far as I can tell,
It's because they fell, asleep at the wheel.
They fell asleep at the wheel.
They were asleep at the wheel.
We fall asleep at the wheel.
I was asleep at the wheel.
I was asleep, asleep at the wheel.
