| Historically Speaking Pantheism has been around for a long time.
In fact, many people for the last 2000 years or so have held the belief that the Universe by itself, Mother Nature, was the essence of God.
These belief systems, unfortunately, excluded the notion of a Spirit or Soul and
did not accept existence beyond death. The world seems divided between theologies involving an omnipotent deity and those that flatly refuse the existence of anything
Spiritual. Too many systems rely on what appears to be mysticism, accepting by faith the interaction of "Spirits" between this world and the next.
The Basic Necessities
Who are we? Where have we come from and where are we going? I've asked myself these questions, like most other people, since I could first form the thoughts. Generally speaking, I think that little time is spent on the answers, and most people are busy enough that it's soon forgotten. Of course, astronomers and astrophysicists are constantly searching for these answers, but the average person, the one who would benefit most from this information, doesn't seem to care all that much. Part of the reason lies in the belief that only "God" could know and that he'll tell us when he's good and ready (or when SHE is good and ready!) Why bother contemplating these things when "God" has it all figured out. This is one of the biggest problems with organized religions as they are today, the toughest questions are rarely asked and therefore no progress is made into understanding.
